1.       Remove old antivirus software before installing new antivirus software.

2.       Go to the old antivirus software vendors website to download their removal or uninstall tool.

3.       Removing the old antivirus software through add/remove programs in Windows does not remove all of the antivirus software.

4.       For McAfee go to http://service.mcafee.com/FAQDocument.aspx?id=TS100507 and follow the instructions to download the MCPR.exe tool.

5.       For Norton go to http://service1.symantec.com/Support/tsgeninfo.nsf/docid/2005033108162039 and make sure you select the actual Norton version. Once the version is selected, you will be able to download the tool.

6.       For malfunctioning antivirus software, remove the antivirus software using the same procedures previously described. Next attempt to reinstall the antivirus software successfully.
